Map showing Grains of different cities – Rinal Mistry

pattern-of-cities

The map was done by Yuri Artibise in 2010. The map shows how grains affect the pattern of the city. There are two types of grains: Coarse grains and fine grains. Coarse grains depict large scale areas which are highly functional but uncomfortable. Long blocks isolate the users of one street from the next one over. This isolation reduces the capability of those living on these streets to jointly support retail establishments. City with fine grains is tightly packed with each other. They are easily navigable. It responds to what came before and adapting what came afterwards shows the difference between the two. The connection between them would isolate each other areas. The grain of city depicts the nature of the spaces.
