Adventures In Mega City,Sam Miller – Nemi Shah

The author Sam Miller in this reading describes his perspective of being a flaneur in the megacity ‘Delhi’. This book is a refreshing and empathetic non-fiction account of our rapidly growing capital city, humorous, gripping and self-reflective. The choice of landmarks or the events, with which the author describes his journey to depict the interconnection of pieces (such as economy, religion, practices, development, migration, education, resources, history, heritage with politics, administration, urbanization and globalization) seamlessly woven together plays a crucial role. The comparative approach and intertwining inputs from different sources made it interesting to know the difference between the image and reality. The city has been characterized as the spiral which is endless (i.e. growing rapidly) but can be control at the end.
